SINBAD II promotes a ground up reformulation for seismic imaging where adverse subsampling related artefacts are removed by intelligent simultaneous acquisition design, and recovery by transform domain sparsity promotion. This development puts us in a unique position to deliver on fundamental breakthroughs in the design and implementation of the next generation of processing, imaging, and full waveform inversion solutions.

Our work will address fundamental issues related to the quality and cost of seismic data acquisition, and the ability to mine 'real world' large data volumes. 

The SINBAD team's current work leverages image space sparsity and allows us to utilize multiples in recovering primary reflectors. In the near future we plan to extend our method to full waveform inversion (FWI) and this would also give us improved ways to calibrate the source function.

Further work in randomized dimensionality reduction techniques will reduce the computation time and costs of the SRME/EPSI demultiple process and their memory imprint.
Randomisation of shots (in our case: simultaneous sources) allows us to compute the low rank approximations for data images. This technique will form the basis of our extension of EPSI to 3D. In particular, we are interested in the the marine and ocean bottom settings. We are endeavouring to reformulate this equation as an alternating optimization problem where we work on both the regularization of the data (i.e. the data matrix) and on the estimation of the surface free Green's function.
